Creating an Anonymous Channel

Introduction

An Anonymous Channel allows users to view it's content without the need to login with an Asset TV account. Views tracked on one of these will come up under anonymous in the analytics and cannot be assigned to a user.

Creating an Anonymous Channel actually requires you to make each video on the channel accessible using a Site Player which has been configured to not require Asset TV login. It is also a good idea to have the user complete some kind of form submission so you can gather some information about viewers, but this is optional.

Note, this method can also be used to make just one video accessible to users, such as for a preview video on a channel or something along those lines.

Instructions

  1. Create your Channel (How to create a channel page) and add your videos to it; please note, any videos made anonymous (using the Site Player) will also be anonymous on ANY other channels it appears on.

  2. Setup a Site Player using these instructions: (Creating a Site Player)

    1. Where you're asked to select an option for Requires Login * you can select either 'No' or 'Webform Overlay':
    2. No - selecting this will mean the user will be able to watch a video that uses this player without any restriction.
    3. Webform Overlay1 - to use this option you'll need to set up a webform to use here, but once done you attach it to this site player and viewers will need to complete the webform to view the content.

  3. Once the Site Player is setup, you need to edit one of the videos added to the Anonymous Channel and use the Site Player created in the point above to allow access without requiring an Asset TV login:

    1. Go to the Player tab.
    2. Scroll down to the Video Player section.
    3. From here select the Player you created to be used.
    4. Save the video.
    5. Open an Incognito window and visit the video page you just edited to make you can access the video without needed to be logged in on Asset TV.
    6. If you have an issue, double check the Site Player is configured correctly and try again.

  4. Once one of the videos is working, you now need to go and edit ALL the other videos on the channel to use this same Site Player, checking they work as you go, to make the rest of the channel accessible to anonymous users.

  1. Webform Overlay submissions only need to be completed every 30 days before needing to be completed again, unless a viewer uses a different browser, device, or clear their cookies. ↩
